I love advertising. I love being able to find the target audience and create something specifically directed to them. I love brainstorming, creating and recreating over and over until I come up with something I'm proud of.
I have been fortunate enough to have many different opportunities to use my creativity and skills. I participated in two internships. One was for a storage company that allowed me to design all of their advertising mediums. This was such a wonderful experience because I had to listen to the client and produce what they wanted. I had to draft different ideas and take them to meetings where I presented my work and then sat with the owners to tweak and improve it to fit their needs. It gave me very valuable hands on experience.
The second internship I was a part of was for The Global Outreach Program, a nonprofit organization that raises money for impoverished countries around the world. I was able to work with other companies soliciting donations and spreading the word about the organization. I designed the company brochure that is still being used today. I was able to coordinate a fundraiser dance for the college students to raise money for the organization.
In school I participated in two different Advertising competitions. One was for a local pizza company. We had to create an entire campaign with advertising mediums, including the design, price, and implementation. My team competed against 5 other teams to be chosen. We won and the company is still using the campaign today. The other competition was to win a grant for a local non-profit. My team had to put together an ad campaign to express why our organization deserved the grant. Our team won, and we were able to present the non-profit organization with the grant money to improve their company.
My friend and I started our own company called June. We make and sell our own clothing and hair accessories. We designed our own logo, business cards, blogs, and social media ads. This gave me practical experience having to find our target audience and advertise directly to them as well as being professional and creative while approaching other businesses about carrying our line.
